Cars & Coffee hosted at Calder Park Thunderdome

Have you flown out of Melbourne Airport, looked down and seen Calder Park Race Track?? Well now is your chance to visit, soak up the nostalgia and view some awesome cars at our Cars & Coffee.

Our Cars & Coffee host: Calder park Thunderdome
Did you know the inaugural meeting on a bitumen track was run by the Australian Motor Sports Club and took place on 14 January 1962 at Calder Park Raceway?

The complex through its history has hosted a dragstrip, a road circuit with several possible configurations, and the “Thunderdome”, a high-speed banked oval equipped to race either clockwise has hosted events ranging from Australian touring cars, historics, Super Tourers, Super Trucks and Super Bikes to rock concerts featuring world class artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Santana and Guns N’ Roses.

Although some of the complex has shut down Calder Park Raceway still hosts a number of activities including:

  • MSCA – Super Sprint Championship
  • Intermediate Drift Day
  • Drift School
  • Victorian State Race Series

Check out the Calder park Raceway website for more information

I can still picture those Friday nights at Calder Park Thunderdome, heading out with my family for the drags. It was my late father’s favourite tradition, something we all shared together. Just the other week, I took my 4-year-old son there, and it was like stepping back in time. The magic was still in the air, just as I remembered it.
